These are Georgia’s best senior living facilities

The reviews have been tallied and the results rendered. From Washington to Florida, 336 facilities were awarded by Seniorly’s 2025 Best of Senior Living.

Every year, Seniorly awards the top senior living facilities across the country to determine the best communities where seniors can enjoy their retirement years. This time around, Georgia had more awarded facilities than almost every other state.

“We’re thrilled to recognize the exceptional work of Seniorly’s Best of Senior Living Award 2025 winners,” Seniorly CEO Arthur Bretschneider said in the report. “By honoring these outstanding communities, we hope to broadcast the positive impact that the right living community can have on the aging experience, including physical health indicators, cognitive health, social engagement, and overall well-being and happiness.”

Singer, songwriter Janis Ian discusses new documentary ‘Breaking Silence’

By Gregg Shapiro
Rough Draft Atlanta

Singer and songwriter Janis Ian will always have a special place in my heart. She was the first artist I ever interviewed at the beginning of my journalism career.

It was 1994, after the release of what some considered to be her comeback album “Breaking Silence.” She couldn’t have been more delightful or forthcoming. I’ve had the privilege of interviewing her four more times (including this one), as well as attending a few of her concerts over the years.

Now retired from touring and recording, Ian is the subject of Varda Bar-Kar’s informative documentary “Janis Ian: Breaking Silence” in theaters March 28. Janis was, once again, kind enough to make time for an interview shortly before the release its release.

Celestial mural of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter greets Atlanta airport travelers

Artist Fabian Williams said if he hadn’t been commissioned to create a mural of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, he would have painted it on the street on his own, in memory of the former president and first lady from Georgia.

“No matter what, I had to do it,” Williams said. “Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, they have done so much good for the world.”

Recipe: Dashi-pickled radishes give Asian bite to favorite springtime root veggie

The AJC's digital repository of recipes contains thousands of creative, delicious dishes contributed by food staff writers, cookbook authors and chefs through the years. It’s time to resuscitate these recipes! We’re doing just that with the launch of Second Helping, a weekly column that features a recipe previously published in the AJC. You can expect seasonal dishes from former AJC food editors, Southern fare from famed regional cookbook writers, and restaurant recipes from Atlanta chefs adapted for the home cook. We hope you enjoy this new column and come back each week for a second helping.

This recipe for dashi-pickled radishes was originally published on March 3, 2016 in the In Season column. It was provided by Savannah Sasser during her tenure as executive chef at Twain’s Brewpub and Billiards in Decatur.
